Summary/ScopeThis position is a full‑time, 12‑month administrative Principal Faculty appointment with teaching responsibilities. A Principal Faculty Member in the Physician Assistant Program is primarily responsible for course instruction and/or course coordination in the didactic and clinical phases of the program. A Principal Faculty member will be effective in the areas of course design, course delivery, and evaluation. A Principal Faculty member in the PA program will also assist with clinical site and preceptor recruitment and evaluation.
The Principal Faculty Instructor is instrumental in assisting the program and its students with meeting the program's Student Learning Outcomes and actively participate in student remediation. The Principal Faculty Instructor is guided by the Program Director in assisting the program with curriculum and program assessment and meeting the ARC‑PA Standards of Accreditation.
- Teaches subjects within prescribed curriculum.
- Teach in areas as needed including guest lectures, small group labs, and OSCEs.
- Prepares and delivers lectures to students.
- Compiles bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
- Stimulates class discussions.
- Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, or assigns this work to others.
- Participate in individual and group remediation of students.
- Occasional travel across Texas and occasionally out-of-state to recruit, develop, and evaluate clinical rotation sites and preceptors.
- Directs research of other teachers or graduate students working for advanced academic degrees.
- Conducts research and publishes findings in professional journals.
- Performs related duties such as advising students on academic and vocational curricula and acting as advisor to student organizations.
- Serves on faculty, program, and university committees.
- Participate in recruitment & admissions, including application screening and interviewing.
- Maintain appropriate records and make timely reports (including grade reports).
- Attend and participate in commencements and other academic functions of the University.
- Additional responsibilities include mentoring, student advisement, recruiting, service to the university and community, and participation in departmental program assessment.
- Maintain at least ten scheduled office hours each week to counsel students.
- Model professionalism and ethical behavior for learners and colleagues.
- Contribute to the development, review, and revision of the program’s mission, goals, competencies, and curriculum.
- Contribute to the evaluation of the PA program.
- Maintain professional licensure and certification.
