About This RoleX
• Prep Academy is a mastery-based K–12 preparatory school in downtown Abilene seeking a Middle School Teacher who thrives in a dynamic, project-driven environment. This role is built for an educator who sees middle school as a critical window for developing independent thinkers. Our teachers facilitate the 360 Learning Model — Learn, Demonstrate, Teach — across a 5-hour school day where students are challenged to apply concepts, defend ideas, and teach what they know.
You Will Do
- Support students in working independently through NCAA-aligned coursework across all subjects
- Design and facilitate hands‑on, cross‑curricular projects where students apply academic concepts to real-world scenarios
- Create a classroom culture where ideas are tested, debated, and reconsidered in a safe and healthy environment
- Guide students in peer instruction and presentation as the final stage of mastery
- Identify and address learning gaps with creative problem‑solving and a growth mindset

• Prep teachers work within a three-stage mastery framework:
- Learn — Support students in working independently through coursework. Build their ability to pick up material, identify gaps, and develop as self‑sufficient learners.
- Demonstrate — Design hands‑on projects where students apply concepts to real situations. This is where the majority of the school day is spent and where great teachers thrive.
- Teach — Guide students to teach concepts to their peers. Mastery is not complete until a student can explain it clearly enough to withstand scrutiny.
- Texas teaching certificate or equivalent professional or educational experience
- Comfort working across multiple subjects in a facilitation and coaching role
- Strong problem‑solving skills and growth mindset
- Ability to design engaging, real‑world project‑based learning experiences
- Commitment to student autonomy, accountability, and mastery
No required duties. Optional tutoring, credit recovery, and summer camp opportunities available for additional income.
