Primary
Purpose:
The Technology and Literacy Associate supports student learning by facilitating engaging literacy and technology experiences, promoting a love of reading, and development of technology skills to prepare for future academic success and an evolving digital world. This position works with all grade levels to provide structured, meaningful weekly lessons in a learning commons environment while fostering curiosity, creativity, and exploration. This position serves as an instructional partner, actively integrating the campus media center into the school's academic programs.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
* High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
Highly Qualified Status
* Attend the free AISD Paraprofessional Academy once hired or;
* Associate's degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning
* State Paraprofessional Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills
* Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, science, social studies and mathematics
* Comfort using educational technology
* Ability to work well with children
* Ability to communicate effectively
* Ability to work cooperatively with others and maintain a positive attitude in the work environment
* Ability to use good judgment in problem-solving and decision-making

Responsibilities and Duties:
* Support board and administrative policies and decisions.
* Maintain a professional work environment through a positive attitude, punctuality, regular attendance, phone etiquette, and personal appearance.
* Actively collaborate with colleagues.
* Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
General
* Promote literacy by reading aloud to classes, incorporating literature that aligns with grade level TEKS and core content classroom units. Collaborate with librarian and campus RLA coach on lesson planning.
* Read aloud to students and lead discussions to promote comprehension, vocabulary, and a love of reading.
* Teach lessons connected to grade level Technology Application TEKS using district provided online resources to reinforce age appropriate technology skills including digital navigation, responsible use of technology and foundational digital literacy concepts.
* Monitor student completion of required internet safety course requirements.
* Collaborate with campus administration and instructional coaching on the instructional design of including technology and literacy components into the Tech Lit class schedule.
* Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly learning environment.
* Assist students in using library media center resources, including online databases, eBooks, and digital research tools
* Operate the library media center automated circulation system to check materials in and out.
* Receive, process, and shelve incoming books, materials, and equipment. Perform minor repairs on books and magazines.
* Assist in the annual inventory and weeding of the collection to ensure resources remain relevant and accurate.
* Ready materials for classroom or reserve collection use as requested by teachers
* Request and schedule use of materials from Library Services or other sources.
* Provide group instruction and assistance to students under the direction of the librarian.
* Provide group instruction and assistance to students in using library media center resources including computers and databases.
* Prepare bulletin boards, displays and instructional materials.
* Collect and maintain records of student fines and make parent notification as needed.
* Maintain files and assist librarian in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
* Supervise parent volunteers
* Assist with special library programs/events.
* Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment and basic troubleshooting for technology devices.
* Reinforce campus expectations for student behavior and model positive interactions
* Collaborate with classroom teachers and campus staff to support instructional goals and student needs
Other
* Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
* Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
