Instructor – Electrical Power & Controls

TSTC seeks an experienced instructor to deliver approved curriculum, facilitate student discussions, evaluate assessments, and integrate technology into an applied learning environment. The instructor serves as an ambassador for TSTC and demonstrates excellence, accountability, service, and integrity with students and community stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver high‑quality instruction and facilitate student learning using creative techniques.
  • Develop course syllabi and instructional plans, organize daily classes, and tailor teaching methods to diverse learning styles.
  • Maintain accurate student records and ensure a safe instructional environment.
  • Advise students on academic progress and collaborate with the Office of Student Success on retention programs.
  • Participate in recruitment events, assist department planning for program promotion, and represent TSTC at tours.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching, deliver constructive feedback, and continually improve teaching strategies.
  • Employ technology to enhance learning experiences and integrate industry‑specific tools and equipment.
  • Coordinate with faculty to maintain program quality and uphold TSTC core values.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Certifications
  • Verifiable work experience in Electrical Power & Controls or a closely related industry.
  • Electrical safety procedures, PPE selection, lock‑out/tag‑out methods.
  • Reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Operation of electrical testing equipment and industry tools.
  • DC and AC circuits, systems, components, and related formulas.
  • Selection, installation, and maintenance of electric motor control systems and PLCs.
  • Ladder logic and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Application of the National Electric Code (NEC) and relevant electrical standards.
  • Transformer identification, calculation of primary and secondary values, and single‑ or three‑phase systems.
  • Cable termination requirements and shielding.
  • Electrical system component testing and maintenance procedures.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Certifications
  • TDLR Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and Studio 5000.
  • Experience with AutoCAD software.
  • Fundamental switch gear protective relaying knowledge.
  • National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) electrical certifications.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Education and Experience
  • Associate degree in a related field and demonstrated qualifications in the teaching discipline.
  • Professional experience may replace academic requirements upon approval by the Vice Chancellor.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related teaching discipline (preferred).
