Critical Infrastructure Operations Technician (BMS / Data Center) 3 month contract to hire Abilene, TX (must relocate) Overview
We’re hiring a senior‑level Critical Infrastructure Operations Technician to serve as the technical authority for Building Management Systems (BMS) and automated infrastructure within a mission‑critical data center environment. This role is hands‑on, highly technical, and focused on system reliability, optimization, and continuous improvement supporting 99.99% uptime
.
This is not a basic facilities or L2 role — this person is the go‑to expert for complex BMS, HVAC, power, and integrated systems.
What You’ll Do- Own and optimize BMS performance across a 24/7 data center environment
- Monitor, analyze, and trend system data to predict failures and prevent downtime
- Lead advanced troubleshooting across HVAC, electrical distribution, fire/life safety, and security systems
- Drive predictive and preventative maintenance strategies for sensors, controllers, and integrated platforms
- Produce clear technical reports on energy usage, environmental conditions, and system efficiency
- Act as the technical lead for BMS upgrades, integrations, and new technology rollouts
- Partner with vendors, engineers, and internal teams on complex infrastructure initiatives
- Support incident response and lead technical recovery efforts during critical events
- Contribute to capacity planning and long‑term infrastructure strategy
- Mentor technicians and provide technical guidance across operations teams
- 7+ years supporting BMS and critical infrastructure in data centers or other mission‑critical facilities
- Deep hands‑on experience with BMS platforms (Schneider, Siemens, Johnson Controls, or similar)
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical distribution, cooling systems, and automation
- Experience with BACnet, Modbus, LON, SCADA, and system integrations
- Ability to analyze trends, interpret data, and recommend system improvements
- Proven ownership of complex technical issues from root cause through resolution
- Comfortable leading technical efforts and influencing cross‑functional teams
- DCIM or advanced facility analytics experience
- Energy management or sustainability initiatives
- Industry certifications (CEM, CDCP, CBCP, PE, OEM BMS certs)
- Experience supporting multiple sites or large campuses
- Mission‑critical data center environment
- Hands‑on access to infrastructure and systems
- On‑call or emergency response support as needed
