Job Duration: up to 2 years
Job Schedule: 55-66 hours/week
Rate: $58.00 - $65.00/hour (depending on experience)
Per Diem: $1,050/week if all qualifications are met
The Commissioning Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and documenting all electrical commissioning activities on a mission-critical data center project. This leadership role oversees a commissioning team that includes a Commissioning Coordinator, Energy Marshals, and LOTO Coordinators, ensuring all systems are safely energized, tested, and delivered to meet client specifications, industry standards, and critical facility requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities of a Commissioning Manager (including but not limited to):
- Lead all aspects of low and medium-voltage electrical commissioning, including switch gear, UPS systems, generators, Building Management System integration, and power distribution
- Ensure systems are installed and functioning in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and approved commissioning scripts
- Coordinate phased energization, acceptance testing, integrated systems testing (IST), and turnover with GC, owner, and commissioning authority
- Manage and mentor the commissioning team direct reports, including - Commissioning Coordinator:
Scheduling, documentation, checklist tracking. Energy Marshal:
Energy control, safe energization, live-dead-live (LDL) validation and development of Method of Procedures (MOP). LOTO Coordinators:
Safe lockout/tagout of energized systems and device traceability. - Delegate tasks clearly, hold team members accountable, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Oversee Lockout/Tagout program execution for all commissioning-related work.
- Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E, and company-specific energy control procedures.
- Review and authorize LOTO plans, control zone drawings, and tag placement prior to system work.
- Confirm LDL testing is performed before system re-energization and recorded accurately.
- Interface with general contractor, owner's commissioning agent, and other trade partners to align commissioning activities with overall construction milestones.
- Participate in daily coordination meetings and commissioning readiness reviews.
- Provide detailed daily and weekly progress updates to project stakeholders.
- Review and validate all commissioning documentation including - Pre-functional checklists, Functional performance tests, Issue logs and deficiency reports, LDL and LOTO records, Method of Procedures (MOPs)
- Ensure all test results and safety documentation are compiled for client turnover and internal QA/QC.
- 7-12+ years commissioning, startup, electrical testing, or turnover experience
- Strong knowledge of energization sequencing, deficiencies, turnover documentation, and system readiness
- Industrial electrical or mission critical experience preferred
- Must work across construction, quality, and client operations
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 70E, and energy control procedures
