Commissioning Technician - Utility Scale Microgrids
Location:
Field-Based (Travel Required)

Position Summary: The Commissioning Technician supports the startup, testing, and commissioning of utility-scale microgrid systems, including natural gas generators and electrical infrastructure. This role ensures systems are safely installed, energized, and operating as designed prior to handoff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support commissioning of natural gas generators, switch gear, substations, transformers, and balance of plant equipment
- Perform functional testing, loop checks, energization, synchronization, and system validation
- Assist with commissioning of medium- and high-voltage electrical systems and distribution equipment
- Support startup and integration of generation assets into microgrid and SCADA systems
- Assist in installation and commissioning of synchronous condensers (electrical and mechanical)
- Troubleshoot issues during commissioning and document results, punch list items, and deficiencies
- Coordinate with EPC contractors, engineers, and OEM vendors during startup activities
- Follow all safety protocols including LOTO and site-specific requirements
- 2+ years of experience in commissioning, construction, or maintenance of power generation or utility-scale electrical systems
- Experience with switch gear, substations, transformers, or generators preferred
- Exposure to natural gas generators, rotating equipment, or synchronous condensers is a plus
- Ability to read electrical schematics, one-lines, and technical documents
- Willingness to travel
- Preferred Background:
- Utility-scale power, substations, or EPC construction projects
- Experience with MV/HV systems, protective relays, or SCADA
- Strong troubleshooting skills (electrical and/or mechanical)
- Hands-on field execution
- Team-oriented with strong safety mindset
