We are seeking a self‑motivated person to join our Directors Investment Group (DIG) team as CHIEF ACTUARY (Life Insurance).

DIG is the parent corporation for Funeral Directors Life Insurance Company, Passare, and Parkway Advisors. As Chief Actuary you will play a central role in the financial management, product development, and risk assessment functions of our life‑insurance business. You will provide executive leadership and strategic oversight for all actuarial functions for DIG and its subsidiaries, ensuring accuracy of actuarial calculations, supporting financial reporting, analyzing profitability, and contributing to strategic decision‑making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities Reserve Computation & Financial Reporting
  • Compute, analyze, and manage statutory and tax reserves for life insurance and annuity products.
  • Maintain and enhance actuarial models used for valuation and projections.
  • Prepare monthly financial statement exhibits for actuarial items, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Lead or support the preparation of the Annual Statement actuarial components, including Actuarial Exhibits and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare the Actuarial Memorandum and other regulatory filings, ensuring compliance with applicable state and NAIC requirements.
  • Assist with year‑end audit support, including responding to auditor inquiries and providing required documentation.
Product Development & Profitability Analysis
  • Design, price, and evaluate new life and annuity products, including modeling, assumption setting, and competitive analysis.
  • Analyze product profitability and performance relative to pricing expectations, experience studies, and company targets.
  • Conduct profitability analysis for distribution and marketing partners, including compensation structures, persistency, and experience trends.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Marketing, Finance, Operations, Compliance) to support product launches and ongoing product management.
Experience Studies & Claims Analysis
  • Perform analysis of death claims, including mortality experience studies, trend identification, and assumption recommendations.
  • Conduct experience studies for lapse, expense, morbidity (if applicable), and other key actuarial assumptions.
  • Recommend updates to actuarial assumptions based on emerging experience and industry trends.
Modeling & Software Proficiency
  • Build, maintain, and validate actuarial models using Slope Actuarial software (primary platform).
  • Ensure model governance, documentation, and controls are maintained in accordance with actuarial standards and internal policies.
  • Utilize additional actuarial and analytical tools as needed (SQL, R, Python, Excel).
Risk Management & Strategic Support
  • Support enterprise risk management activities, including stress testing, scenario analysis, and ORSA related work.
  • Assist with cashflow testing and asset adequacy analysis.
  • Provide actuarial insights to support strategic initiatives, capital management, and reinsurance transactions.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Communication
  • Present actuarial findings to senior leadership, auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Translate complex actuarial results into clear, actionable insights for non actuarial teams.
  • Support internal committees and working groups related to product, financial reporting, and risk.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
  • Progress toward ASA or FSA designation (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in life insurance actuarial work, including valuation, product development, or financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with Slope Actuarial software is strongly preferred; experience with other actuarial modeling platforms is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
