Summary / Scope

The Director of Financial Aid oversees all aspects of federal, state, and institutional student aid programs, which includes scholarships, grants, loans, and the work‑study program. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance in all aid programs. The Director provides leadership for planning, managing, and evaluating personnel, programs, and budgets while ensuring timely, sensitive, and accurate delivery of financial aid to students in a highly regulated environment.

The Director is also responsible for submitting accurate financial aid reports as required by federal, state, and institutional agencies and supporting customer‑oriented services to students and to the campus community.

Basic Responsibilities

Manage financial aid staff, which includes annual performance reviews, ensuring staff are trained and following policies and procedures; manage the implementation and maintenance of institutional financial aid programs; plan organization goals, objectives, and strategic initiatives; prepare, review, and approve a variety of reports on the federal, state, and institutional levels; develop and maintain internal and external relationships, which includes participation in a variety of meetings and committees.

Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise, hire, support, train, and evaluate all financial aid staff.
  • Develop and implement plans and objectives regarding title IV, institutional aid, and student service.
  • Responsible for all access/user accounts for FSA websites (COD, NSLDS, FAAAccess).
  • Present financial aid presentations during preview events.
  • Ensure compliance within all aid programs (federal, state, and institutional).
  • Process professional judgement appeals (EFC/SAI, COA, and Dependency).
  • Manage academic scholarship adjustments when requested by Admission/Recruiting.
  • Complete SAP evaluations at the end of each term.
  • Process SAP appeals.
  • Review R2T4 files monthly.
  • Update degree audit process for each payment period (November and April).
  • Edit financial aid pages on the website as needed.
  • Sign off on all check requests.
  • Attend meetings as needed (ES Director’s, Care Team, Student Services & Systems Team, Staff Senate, Student Financial Services, RNL).
  • Approve or deny Financial Aid appeals (financial and academic).
  • Facilitate Colleague processes changes as needed and complete system setups each year.
  • Analyze and create reports to administration as requested (BOT, BOD, weekly FA reports).
  • Review monthly reconciliations (Pell, direct loan, work study, private loans, TEG, and SEOG).
  • Serve HSU as the project manager for annual Uniform Guidance audit.
  • Submit and/or oversee external reports (FAD, FISAP, NCAA, etc.).
  • Set up net price calculator annually.
  • Oversee all state and federal/state/institutional budgets/allocations.
  • Oversee all Financial Aid Office mass communication to students (monthly comm flow).
  • Organize all Financial Aid Office events.
  • Manage the Tuition Exchange and Christlieb programs.
  • Oversee the HSU Financial Literacy Program.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise (4‑5) Full Time Staff in addition to student workers.
