Position

Assistant/Associate Athletic Trainer

Compensation

Salary is contingent on experience, skills, certifications, and qualifications of the potential candidate. Coverage expenses for NATA, BOC, licensure, and CEUs.

Scope

Responsibilities include prevention, care, and rehabilitation of injuries/illnesses involving student-athletes as Assistant/Associate Athletic Trainer. Assist with medical documentation, insurance, facility maintenance, inventory management, and clinical supervision of Master of Athletic Training students.

Essential Duties
  • Coverage and other duties as assigned by Associate AD for Sports Medicine.
  • Injury Prevention:
    Pre-season physical exams, identification of pre-existing conditions, coordination with strength & conditioning coaches, creation and execution of conditioning programs.
  • Injury/Illness Recognition and Evaluation:
    Thorough knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinesiology, biomechanics for accurate assessment.
  • Injury/Illness Management: CPR/AED/First Aid certification; provide emergency medical care; therapeutic treatment regimens; prompt referrals to specialists.
  • Injury/Illness Rehabilitation:
    Design and facilitate exercise rehabilitation, therapeutic methods; objective measurement of recovery; intermittent testing and reevaluation.
  • Program Organization & Administration:
    Maintain EMR, injury records, rehabilitation reports; assist facility upkeep; enforce policies; participation in drug testing programs; recruitment and clinical supervision of MAT students.
  • Education & Counseling:
    Instruct student-athletes, coaches, faculty, parents, and guardians; supervise MAT and volunteer students; counsel and refer; serve as communication liaison; present at all practices, conditioning sessions, games as required.

  • Ability to assist in application of curriculum-based programs for MAT students
Qualifications
  • Affiliation with the Church of Christ; professing Christian and willingness to support ACU mission.
  • Professional current licensing or ability to apply for Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation License of Athletic Training and NATA BOC credentialed.
  • Minimum 1 year certified athletic trainer experience in high school, clinic, or college/university; college/university or professional setting preferred; understanding of NCAA Division I rules and standards.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification maintained.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong communication, adaptability, multi-tasking, motivation, strong work ethic, and desire to serve others.
Physical Demands
  • Adapt schedule to accommodate extended hours; handle multiple tasks and instant decision-making.
  • Good overall physical health: lifting, walking, running, carrying, standing for extended periods; ability to lift heavy items.
  • Ability to stand outside in various environmental conditions; react calmly and authoritatively in emergency situations.
