Position: Staff Audiologist - EDRP Approved

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application.

Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications
  • Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
  • Doctor of Audiology (AuD) from a program recognized by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association (ASHA), or
  • Other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an authority recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • For non‑licensed audiologists, a temporary appointment as a graduate audiologist at GS‑11 may be granted under specific conditions, but promotion to GS‑12 requires full licensure.
  • Active pursuit of required licensure at the time of appointment, with written requirements and deadlines provided.
  • For those with prior qualifications meeting GS‑11 requirements upon appointment, grandfathering provisions apply as specified in VHA policy.
Basic Requirements
  • United States citizenship or, if a non‑citizen, when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens per VA policy.
  • Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in foreign credential equivalency and deemed at least equivalent to U.S. programs.
  • Physical requirements:

    no set requirements; light carrying and movement may be required.
Professional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques for assessment and treatment of auditory and balance disorders.
  • Ability to perform functions within contemporary audiology scope of practice as defined by the American Academy of Audiology or ASHA.
  • Ability to interact with patients, families, and other health care professionals.
  • Skill in determining nature, type, and severity of hearing/communication/vestibular disorders.
  • Skill in counseling patients and families regarding management of disorders.
  • Ability to provide professional advice and consultation to other health care professionals.
  • Ability to independently apply contemporary audio logic treatments to diverse patient populations.
Experience Requirements
  • Completion of one year of professional experience comparable to the next lower grade level.
  • Preferred experience with adult populations, NOAH – ROES – CPRS documentation system, and virtual care via VVC and Tele‑health.
  • Full‑performance (GS‑12) requires the above KSAs plus additional skills as described.
Duties
  • Diagnose audio logic disorders, conduct assessments, and treat auditory disorders through various modalities.
  • Provide adjunctive interventions for medical disorders.
  • Consult with medical center staff on patient care issues.
  • Serve as a consultant and subject matter expert on hearing, tinnitus, and balance disorders.
  • Participate in program evaluation, teaching, training, and research activities.
  • Work Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm.
