Certified Surgical Technologist

The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is responsible for facilitating the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments; supplies; and equipment. CSTs maintain the sterile field while anticipating and responding to the needs of the surgical team. Functions as a medical assistant within the clinics.

Minimum Education:

• Post High school Vocational/Specialized Training (Surgical Tech School)

Minimum Work Experience:

• 1 year

Required Licenses/Certifications:

• Certified Surgical Technologist
• Healthcare Provider BCLS

• Thorough knowledge of surgical processes
• Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology
• Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families
• Skill in performing surgical technician and medical assistant tasks appropriately
• Skill; tact; and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions
• Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families
• Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care and surgical procedures

• Ability to plan; prioritize; and complete delegated tasks
