Job Description

The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.
This position is available for Morning, Evening, and Night shifts on multiple homes. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) III works as part of a team that helps people with intellectual disabilities achieve their goals. Responsibilities include grooming, bathing, feeding, lifting and positioning, assisting with medication administration, observing and reporting individual conditions, providing meaningful interactions, and participating in individualized training or active treatment programs.
The DSP documents information on the person’s life and events throughout their daily schedule. Work requires use of simple routine duties, with decision-making based on guidance from professional staff. The DSP may volunteer to serve as a shift/team lead when the DSP IV Lead/Charge is not on duty. The position may require driving a state-owned vehicle.
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy. Performs direct care and support services, implements habilitation and rehabilitation, behavior management, crisis intervention, mealtime plans, and treatment programs. Encourages individuals to attend assigned activities and programs. Stays meaningfully engaged with individuals, providing ongoing activities that serve each individual’s preferences.
Documents participation and progress for effective communication with staff. Utilizes active treatment to train skills such as activities of daily living, supports goal achievement, and implements positive behavior support plans. Provides healthcare support under medical supervision, observes signs, administers first aid and CPR when appropriate, and reports significant changes. Assists with transportation to scheduled activities and emergencies. Ensures the environment is safe, sanitary, and free of hazards.
Follows procedures for reporting abuse, neglect, and unusual incidents. Evacuates individuals during emergencies and completes required documentation. Provides behavior intervention to protect residents…
