Pay Rate: 40-55/HR on W2

    High School Diploma, GED. Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
  • Required Certifications & Licensure: ARDMS certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN). BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

Skills & Experience:

Minimum one (1) year of experience in high-risk obstetric ultrasound in a hospital or maternal-fetal medicine setting.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the preparation of images/exams for the provider/physician.
  • Documents and communicates sonographic findings to physician and licenses independent providers.
  • Correctly completes paperwork, logs/documents and charges all exams.
  • Utilizes effective safety and efficiency skills on a daily basis.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to all hospital, departmental, and regulatory policies, including HIPAA and infection control guidelines.
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement to evaluate quality, completeness, timeliness, according to protocol.
  • Participates in CME opportunities. Seeks out opportunities for self-growth by participating in in-service programs and other educational activities. Attends department meetings.
  • Operates ultrasound machines and related equipment with proficiency and care.
  • Monitors equipment reliability and safety. Reports issues and/or repairs or service due.
  • Restock sonography rooms with required supplies for sonography performance.
  • Performs routine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of imaging equipment as required.
  • Reports any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly.
  • Collaborates with maternal-fetal medicine physicians, sonographers, nurses, and other healthcare providers to coordinate care and contribute to case evaluations.
  • Participates in clinical case discussions, image reviews, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Actively participates in quality initiatives, including patient satisfaction, patient care, and workflow.
  • Fosters positive working relationships, across departments, and campuses to represent Cook Children's as a unified, supportive team.

  • Informs patient of physician's instructions or ancillary caregiver's observations or concerns and takes same into consideration in providing appropriate care.
  • Meets the needs of the patient, family, and multi-disciplinary team through effective communication, coordination, and documentation ensuring safety, care, courtesy, and efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean work area that includes a safe environment. Positions patients and equipment properly to promote comfort and prevent injury.
  • Performs advanced ultrasound imaging studies for high-risk obstetric patients including:
    Single and multiple Level II fetal anatomy scans. Fetal echocardiogram. Nuchal translucency and first-trimester screenings. Biophysical profiles (BPP) and growth scans. Fetal growth assessments. Middle cerebral artery (MCA) Doppler scans. Umbilical vein Doppler scans. Cervical length evaluations. Performs visual sonographic guidance to complete successful invasive procedures (e.g. Amniocentesis).
  • Acquires high-quality images consistent with established departmental protocols and standards.
  • Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings and communicates relevant observations to the supervising provider/physician.
  • Inspects and reviews patient charts, reports, lab results, and medical history. Creates reports to assist the physician with documentation.
