Director, Data and Analytics

* Support the Data and Analytics Strategy by effectively partnering with stakeholders and leading a team of analytics developers.
* Provide leadership and guidance both to direct reports and executive leadership.
* Perform development of data analytics, reporting, visualizations, and dashboards using industry-standard data tools and platforms.
* Lead development of and promote data governance best practices among the analytics team and with all business partners.
* Partner with central IT resources as well as campus business partners to define data needs, answer analytics questions, and refine development requirements.

* This role will work closely with university leadership to understand drivers of strategic outcomes and translate into effective reporting and forecasting of drive performance.

* Perform development of data analytics, reporting, visualizations, and dashboards using industry-standard data tools and platforms.
* Leverage an understanding of business data development, including nuances of student and customer data, to lead a team in the development of enterprise KPIs, performance dashboards, and leading indicator score cards.
* Use standard Business Intelligence tools such as SQL queries and Power BI to build reports and visualizations which accurately represent data and can be readily understood by University partners at all levels.
* Anticipate next-layer data needs for the business and craft data assets to answer those needs for diverse users, from front-line managers to executive leadership.
* Prioritize effectively across multiple initiatives and stakeholders.
* Adhere to and promote data governance best practices in all development work.
* Translate ad hoc data and analysis requests into technical requirements.
* Ensure developer team adherence to data governance principles in development, including documentation of business language, data sources, and logic, using industry best practices.
* Partner with Central IT teams as well as diverse campus partners to support data needs and requirements.
* Lead and coach a team of developers to query transactional or enriched data as appropriate to create various reports and analytic products.
* Work closely with knowledge workers across the university system to create scalable and durable data products to positively impact visibility and decision making across the enterprise.
* Strong organizational and leadership skills to manage multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Demonstrated skill in creating data visualizations, building analytic tools and dashboards, and creating other reporting solutions
* Understanding of SQL coding and principles of query logic
* Functional knowledge of relational databases and technical infrastructure in enterprise data environments such as Oracle and Snowflake
* Experience with industry standard reporting applications such as Power BI or Tableau
* Experience with creating external-facing reporting in support of legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
* Knowledge of data validation and quality assurance principles to ensure validity and accuracy of reporting data
* Knowledge of data governance best practices
* Familiarity with data governance tools and code repositories
* Familiarity with forecasting and predictive analytics
* Ability to lead change and secure buy-in both with direct reports and peers
* Ability to identify and implement opportunities for operational improvement
* Ability to understand complex data models and relationships
* Ability to understand and apply business logic to query multiple data sources and retrieve accurate data
* Ability to write complex SQL functions and use other industry-standard data tools to query data and create reports, dashboards, and other analytics products as needed or apparent
* Ability to implement and uphold data governance best practices in all aspects of reporting asset development
* Three or more  years experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a related field.
* Demonstrated experience handling highly sensitive data with due diligence and care in accordance with industry and institutional standards
* Experience developing people and leading teams in complex and rapidly evolving environments.
* Experience developing analytical datasets and reporting for multiple organizational needs, including an understanding of the relevant dimensions necessary for deep analytics of data in a higher-education practice
