Custodian - Part Time
General Description: Under general and limited supervision, perform a wide variety of custodial maintenance duties to provide a clean, orderly, and safe environment in public buildings. Responsibilities include cleaning, housekeeping, and light maintenance of assigned spaces.
Supervision: This position exercises no supervision over other employees.
Important and Essential Duties- Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors.
- Dust and clean offices and other work areas.
- Collect and remove waste.
- Clean and restock restrooms.
- Strip and wax floors.
- Move or lift furniture, boxes, and other materials.
- Open and close the facility for use and secure the facility for closing.
- Operate carpet extractor machine and buffers to polish floors.
- Operate a City vehicle or personal vehicle to travel between City facilities to complete assigned work.
Other Job Related Duties: Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Tools, chemicals, materials, methods, and best practices used in custodial operations.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions of custodial operations.
- Proper use and care of a variety of tools, materials, and equipment common to custodial operations.
- Operate a variety of custodial equipment including vacuum cleaner, carpet machine, and buffer.
- Maintain a schedule of cleaning with minimal supervision.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instruction.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships internally and externally.

Experience: Experience in custodial work is preferred.
Education/Training: Formal or informal education or training ensuring the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance is required.
License or Certificate: A current valid Texas driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment, or a military waiver is required.
Special RequirementsEssential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
- Exposure to noise, outdoors, vibration, and confining work spaces.
- Exposure to chemicals and mechanical and electrical hazards.
- Ability to travel to different sites.
- Weight lifting demands:
Light (≤20 lbs), Medium (≤50 lbs), Heavy (≤100 lbs), Very Heavy (team lifting >100 lbs).
Codes represent the frequency of tasks during a typical workday.
- E – Extensive (100–70% of time)
- M – Moderate (60–30% of time)
- I – Infrequent (20–10% of time)
- A – Almost Never (
