Under general and limited supervision, perform a wide variety of custodial maintenance duties to provide a clean, orderly, and safe environment in public buildings. These duties include cleaning, housekeeping, and light maintenance of assigned spaces.

This position exercises no supervision over other employees.

• Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors.
• Dust and clean offices and other work areas.
• Collect and remove waste.
• Clean and restock restrooms.
• Strip and wax floors.
• Move or lift furniture, boxes, and other materials.
• Open and close the facility for use and secure the facility for closing.
• Operate carpet extractor machine and buffers to polish floors.
• Operate a City vehicle or personal vehicle to travel between City facilities in order to complete assigned work.

Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge of tools, chemicals, materials, methods, and best practices used in custodial operations, including occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Skill to operate a variety of custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaner, carpet machine, and buffer.

Ability to maintain a cleaning schedule with minimal supervision, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, communicate clearly and concisely, and establish cooperative working relationships internally and externally.

Any combination of equivalent experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may qualify. Experience in custodial work is preferred. Formal or informal education/training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for job performance is required. A current valid Texas driver's license (or the ability to obtain one within ninety days) or a military waiver is required.

Essential duties require exposure to noise, outdoor environments, vibration, confined work spaces, chemicals, and mechanical and electrical hazards. Ability to travel to different sites is necessary.
