Industrial Specialist III – Texas Correctional Industries Production Supervisor – Robertson Unit Garment Factory
Performs highly complex work in the production and processing of various products in the Texas Correctional Industry department. Work involves monitoring the work of inmates to ensure efficient operations. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Functions- Monitors inmates in the performance of assigned tasks; develops production standards; makes recommendations on production procedure changes; monitors and reviews production to ensure quality and quantity control of finished products; and monitors machinery and equipment maintenance.
- Ensures on-the-job training and safety training are conducted for inmate workers in methods and equipment used.
- Prepares reports of operations and related documents.
- Maintains security of tools, machinery and equipment; responds to emergency situations; performs various correctional and custodial support functions; and assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.
- Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
- Education, Experience, and Training
- Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
- One year full-time, wage-earning experience in garment manufacturing or two years full-time, wage-earning experience in any production or manufacturing operation. Thirty semester hours from a college or university accredited by a recognized body may be substituted for each year of experience on a year-for-year basis for a maximum substitution of two years.
- Correctional custody or law-enforcement experience preferred.
- Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of quality control standards to maintain satisfactory levels of production.
- Knowledge of production and workflow procedures.
- Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
- Knowledge of garment manufacturing preferred.
- Ability to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
- Ability to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
- Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Ability to train and supervise the work of inmates.
- Machinery and equipment use proficiency preferred.
- Physical ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 15–44 lbs, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle and motor equipment.
- Must work inside, around machines with moving parts, in radiant and electrical environments, with noise and dust, fumes, solvents, and travel by car, van, bus or airplane.
- Uses computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, garment manufacturing machines, hand tools, forklift, pallet jack, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
Salary/Salary Range: $3,906.52 Monthly.
