Production Operator 2 – Abilene, TX (Open)
The Production Operator II contributes to safely managing the care of and filling gas products into liquid, medical, and high‑pressure gas cylinders in alignment with federal, state, and local regulations and meeting the standard operating procedures of Airgas.
Responsibilities- Support various plant operations, including monitoring equipment to fill industrial gas mixes, cryogenic gases, and medical gas products, contributing to level 1 & 2 activities.
- Inspect cylinders prior to filling, following standard procedures required by government, Airgas, and distributor standards.
- Evaluate products for purity and correct mixtures to ensure high‑quality standards.
- Contribute to the care of high‑pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders.
- Attach to the manifold and ensure the purity of every cylinder by addressing potential contaminants.
- Fill cylinders by pressure and weight, per regulations and standards.
- Assist with loading and unloading cylinders on and off pallets and tractor trailers.
- Operate a forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment.
- Maintain accurate records to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards; complete quality control sheets as required.
- Interpret cylinder labels and color‑coding; stay familiar with safety protocols for various gases, sizes, and contents.
- Accurately label cylinders.
- Adhere to all government and company standards for safely handling hazardous materials/cylinder gases.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly plant appearance.
- Support the team by taking on tasks within qualifications not specifically described.
- Ability to complete training and achieve certifications for filling all cryogenic liquids and pure industrial gases.
- Ability to complete FDA, Food Grade, and CGMP Training and achieve certifications.
- Must be able to operate forklift and maintain appropriate forklift certifications.
- Ability to read and comprehend all written and computer generated documentation.
- Valid employment authorization in the U.S.; no visa sponsorship required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of prior experience in related manufacturing operation, filling or loading experience.
- Strong background in gas, welding, or safety supply industry or chemical industry.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division with various units of measure; compute rates, ratios, percentages.
