Primary Purpose

The Marketing and Community Engagement Specialist is a strategic partner that works with the high-performing Abilene ISD Communications team. An individual in this role is responsible for proactively researching, planning, implementing, and evaluating district and campus strategic marketing and community engagement programs. This team member will be able to drive comprehensive marketing campaigns that align with the district's strategic priorities, boost recruitment and enrollment, and improve stakeholder engagement to position AISD as the school district of choice in Abilene and the Big Country.

Professional competencies will include marketing and advertising campaign planning, trend analysis, brand strategy, graphic design and content management, photography, community relations, and event planning.

Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, communications, public relations, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Proven experience in public or education sector communications and marketing using a variety of strategic approaches is highly preferred. General understanding of the structures and trends of K-12 public education in Texas is also preferred.

  • Content management skills for web, social media, digital, and print outlets
  • Event planning and logistics skills
  • Graphic design skills and creative platform knowledge
  • Ability to operate professional production tools, including digital cameras
  • Working knowledge of digital photography and editing software

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Marketing
    • Research, plan, implement, evaluate, and report on strategic, data‑driven district, campus, and department‑level marketing campaigns
    • Work with district personnel, campuses, departments, and external partners to evaluate and ensure the consistency of messaging and brand identity standards
    • Help establish district and campus customer service standards and training
  • Content Creation & Brand Asset Management
    • Design and publish branded digital content, graphics, and other promotional collateral for a variety of internal and external marketing tools and outlets
    • Assist with content creation for and management of district and campus websites, social media, publications, and other promotional outlets
    • Take and edit photographs for use with digital content and print collateral
  • Community Engagement
    • Provide leadership for the planning and execution of recurring and special district wide events, including celebrations and recognition programs
    • Help manage community partnership work, including volunteer coordination
    • Contribute to professional development in assigned duty areas for the Communications team and AISD leaders

    Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
