Position Description
Employees in this classification are experienced LVNs responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned correctional facility. Work is performed under the direction of a regional director of nursing, staff nurse, and/or physician as part of a total health care team providing complete evaluations to patients. The role works under supervision of a regional director of nursing or staff nurse or physician, may instruct coworkers and supervise them in the performance of special procedures, and is part of a correctional managed health care team delivering safe and competent care to patients.
Major/EssentialFunctions
- Provide clinical oversight and guidance to LVNs and other non‑licensed clinical support staff as appropriate for LVN scope of practice.
- Deliver basic nursing care within scope of LVN practice, including vital signs, wound care, medication administration, laboratory draws/phlebotomy, and other treatments.
- Process patient sick call requests according to policy.
- Assist in sick call, chronic care clinics, intake screenings, and other clinic visits.
- Monitor patient health status and report changes promptly to appropriate clinical staff.
- Administer prescribed medications accurately and safely in accordance with protocols.
- Maintain medication records and ensure proper documentation.
- Observe and report therapeutic effects and adverse reactions.
- Promote adherence to treatment plans through patient education.
- Coordinate care within the interdisciplinary team, including mental health, dental, and specialty services.
- Prepare and maintain clinical areas, supplies, and equipment efficiently to support cost‑effective care delivery.
- Night Differential: +$3/hr on weekday nights
- Weekend Differential: +$3/hr on weekend days
- Weekend Night Differential: +$6/hr on weekend nights
Completion of a Board of Nursing accredited program of vocational nursing. Current Vocational Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practice vocational nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas. At least two years of LVN experience in a hospital, clinic, or community‑based environment.

Pay StatementCompensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
