Position: Certified Nursing Assistant (Night Shift)

Mesa Springs Healthcare invites you to join our team and make a difference as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Salary is based on experience for a 6pm–6am shift.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare residents’ rooms for arrival: make beds, raise name tags, ensure admission kits are available.
  • Greet residents and escort them to their rooms, introducing them to roommates and staff.
  • Inventory and mark residents’ personal belongings.
  • Transport residents to new rooms or receiving areas and assist with loading/unloading from vehicles.
  • Perform assigned tasks in accordance with policies and supervisor instructions.
  • Create and maintain a warm, calm environment for residents throughout shift.
  • Report resident complaints, grievances, and any occupational exposures (blood, bodily fluids, hazardous chemicals) to the supervisor.
  • Participate in nursing reports upon duty and follow injury and infection protocols.
  • Assist residents with daily dental, oral hygiene, bath, and bowel/bladder functions.
  • Maintain intake and output records and assist with restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed.
  • Change dressings, bandages, binders; provide eye and ear care.
  • Answer resident calls promptly and check residents unable to call for help regularly.
  • Monitor for pressure areas and skin breakdown; report injuries and unknown sources of injury.
  • Turn bedfast residents at least every two hours.
  • Prepare residents for meals, assist with feeding, clean water pitchers, and serve snacks between meals and bedtime.
  • Participate in in‑service training before performing tasks involving exposure risks.
  • Wash hands before and after all resident services.
  • Notify nurse supervisors immediately if a resident leaves or is missing.
  • Follow safety precautions, keep supplies and equipment organized, and return all equipment to designated storage after use.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties related to nursing care (clean bed rails, overbed tables, nightstands).
  • Report hazardous conditions, safety violations, and isolation procedures violations.
  • Use personal protective equipment correctly and dispose of it safely.
  • Inform supervisor of any changes in a resident’s condition for care plan updates.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
  • Treat all residents with kindness, dignity, and respect; ensure privacy and knock before entering rooms.
  • Report resident abuse allegations and misappropriation of property.
  • Honor resident refusal of treatment and report such requests to the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduated from an accredited CNA program.
  • Active, valid CNA certificate in the state.
  • Current CPR card.
  • Evidence of being free of tuberculosis infection upon hire.
  • Proficient reading, writing, speaking, and understanding of English.
  • Independent decision‑making ability when required.
  • Attitude of patience, tact, cheerfulness, and enthusiasm; ability to handle difficult residents.
  • Ability to work ethically with personnel, residents, families, visitors, and government agencies.
Work Environment
  • Working in nursing service areas including stations and resident rooms.
  • Intermittent movement throughout hours; frequent interruptions.
  • Interaction with residents and staff under all conditions, including stressful situations.
  • Work beyond normal hours, on weekends, holidays, and on call 24/7.
  • Possible call‑back during emergencies (e.g., severe weather, evacuation).
  • Exposure to falls, burns, odors, dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, infectious waste, TB, AIDS, hepatitis B, and hazardous chemicals.
  • Preparation for possible evacuation of residents during emergencies.
Physical & Sensory Requirements
  • Ability to move throughout the workday; lift up to 25 lbs, with occasional lifts up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to cope with mental, emotional, and stress demands of the position.
  • Adequate sight and hearing or use of appropriate prosthetics.
  • Health status meeting facility policies; may require medical or physical examination.
  • Ability to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, or hostile individuals.
