The Registered Nurse assumes primary leadership accountability and responsibility for milieu management and directing patient care activities of nursing staff. The RN maintains standards of professional nursing practice in accordance with facility policy and procedures, external governing bodies, performance improvement standards, and psychiatric nursing standards.

The RN assesses patients utilizing the nursing process to formulate individualized plans of care, implements interventions, and evaluates outcomes consistent with policy and appropriate to the client’s condition to promote, maintain, and restore physical and mental health, and prevent illness. The RN interprets age/disability specific information in response to the client population served, provides for safe medication delivery according to policies, physician orders, and current practice, and is responsible for thorough, accurate reporting and documentation of the patient’s symptoms, responses, and progress.

The RN ensures professional development, continuing education, and licensure maintenance. All duties are performed in accordance with the Joint Commission, federal and state regulations, oceans' mission, policies and procedures, and performance improvement standards.

Essential Functions
  • Use the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation to formulate nursing interventions directed toward the development of an individualized plan of care and treatment modalities.
  • Identify risk levels, precautions, and expected outcomes individualized to the client, including discharge planning; prescribe interventions to attain expected outcomes; evaluate the effectiveness of interventions; conduct ongoing assessment from admission to discharge; initiate medical/psychiatric crisis intervention to stabilize and ensure the well‑being of patients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of psychiatric disorders and appropriate nursing interventions; implement nursing interventions identified in the individualized plan of care; apply interventions to progress the patient toward wellness and address maintenance of wellness.
  • Administer medications as prescribed safely; provide education on prescribed medications; recognize signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and responsibility for decision making, quality nursing care, and knowledge base of psychiatric nursing care.
  • Review, revise, and update medical records within facility guidelines and time frames; transcribe and implement physician orders according to facility policy; document care, progress, and response to intervention in the medical record accurately, thoroughly, and concisely.
  • Follow up on client care responsibilities, communicate incomplete assignments, and current client needs to staff to assure continuity of care.
  • Implement staff assignments and delegation of duties using appropriate judgment and knowledge; demonstrate positive willingness to assist staff and patients; function as an advocate for patient needs and safety.
  • Utilize nursing knowledge to successfully meet the needs of the facility, patient population, and staff, and utilize nursing resources to enhance evidence‑based practice.
  • Float among various clinical services where qualified and competent and perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements

Current, valid, and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state in which you are employed at an Oceans Healthcare hospital. Valid Compact licenses are also acceptable.
