Job Summary

The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients under the supervision of the physician or mid-level provider. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care and functions as the primary liaison between patients, staff, and physicians.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education
  • Completion of a Vocational Nursing Program or an Associate’s Degree in Nursing
Minimum Work Experience
  • One year of licensed Vocational Nurse experience
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Current state vocational nurse license
  • Current CPR certificate
Required Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology; familiarity with healthcare systems, regulations, policies, and documentation standards.
  • Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for medical treatment; understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.
  • Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of medical chart reporting and records.
  • Knowledge of management and organizational theory for supervising business practices, including employee development, training, delegation, and mentoring; knowledge of medications and pharmacological agents used in a clinic setting.
  • Knowledge of diseases and disease processes.
  • Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques.
  • Skill in using universal precautions, creating a safe workplace, and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Skill in health information management by charting patient data appropriately.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with patients, families, staff, and others.
  • Ability to respond flexibly to changing demands.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and direct the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
