Travel Nurse Opportunity In Abilene, TX

We desire a Registered Nurse with Medical Surgical skills for a travel assignment in Abilene, TX. This position requires travel, and compensation will cover travel expenses and is higher than local assignments. Our client seeks experienced nurses to start quickly, so we need qualified nurses to begin the electronic on-boarding process promptly.

Travel nursing offers adventure, freedom of choice, and flexibility. Nurses can select preferred facilities and locations, working in prestigious institutions. Many nurses seek a quality lifestyle, and the ability to choose is important. To a great extent, travel nurses control their schedules. Many have been traveling for over ten years and plan to continue.

If you are a medical professional seeking a good salary, schedule choices, and exciting locations, a travel career may be suitable. To get started:

Get Prepared For The Steps In The Process

Before starting your first travel assignment, ensure your RN license is up to date, if needed, and have complete immunization and physical records. Your CV should highlight your nursing skills and experience, and you should have several references who can vouch for you.

Once you identify assignments of interest, your recruiter will submit you for interviews. During the interview, inquire about scheduling, patient to nurse ratios, required skills, etc.

State Licensing Requirements

You can start the RN licensing process before securing an assignment. Some states, like California, New Jersey, and New York, take over a month to process. Many others process licenses quickly, often in a few days. Some states allow one-day licensing by visiting the state nursing board directly. If you have a license in a Nurse Licensure Compact state, the process is easier, as it permits practice in any of the 25 compact states.

Your

Area Of Expertise

Each facility has its own policy, but typically a year or more of experience in your specialization is needed. While requirements vary, you can apply for travel positions after a year of continuous experience. Some specialties, like psychiatric RN and cardiac ICU, require over two years of experience.

Versatility

Flexibility is crucial for a successful travel nurse. Be open to various hospital policies, procedures, and locations to gain additional skills. Even if your first choice is an assignment in Hawaii, don’t miss out on opportunities in other locations. Most contracts are for 13 weeks, allowing you to try several cities within a year.

Job References and Skills Checklist

Your clinical references are crucial for your application. Ensure they are readily available to confirm your skills. Typically, three references are sufficient. A travel nurse will also fill out a skills checklist with their references.
