The Abilene Christian University Police Department (ACUPD) is continually seeking diverse, highly motivated, community-oriented officers with integrity, who are willing to face a variety of challenges and responsibilities. We are committed to working in partnership with the residents of our growing university community to provide a safe, secure environment for our students, faculty/Staff and surrounding residents.
Requirements- TCOLE certified officer – in a police academy, just graduated, or a tenured officer.
- Clear criminal history and good driving record.
- Good judgement and outstanding public‑servant attitude and skills.
- Outstanding communication skills — both written and verbal.
- Courteous, tactful and good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build and maintain positive and professional working relationships.
- Officers work one weekend a month on a 5/8 schedule.
- Full uniforms and all equipment provided.
- 136 holiday hours provided every year.
- 80 hours of vacation yearly, 100 hours of sick leave, 16 hours of personal leave.
- Training and fitness membership to the university recreation center provided.
- Officers earn additional event pay for special events (sporting events, sing‑song, homecoming, etc.).
Full‑time and reduced full‑time employees of Abilene Christian University are eligible to apply for a discount in tuition for courses taken at ACU for up to six hours during any fall, spring and/or the combined summer terms.
Dependent Children of Full‑Time Employees and Reduced Full‑Time EmployeesFor classes taken at ACU, upon employment, a full‑time/reduced full‑time employee may apply for a tuition discount for up to thirty‑six credit hours for his or her children during the academic year.
Basic Responsibilities- Protection of life and property on the campus and other properties of Abilene Christian University and certain other extended jurisdictional areas, providing for overall safety of persons and protection of University and personal property.
- Enforcement of all local, State and federal laws on the ACU campus, other ACU properties and other defined jurisdiction areas.
- Provide patrol, respond to calls for service, and maintain enforcement of local, State and federal laws off‑campus within the extended jurisdictional area provided by annual agreement between the Abilene Police Department and the ACU Police Department.
- High School Diploma or GED certificate.
- Current Texas Peace Officer TCOLE license certification.
Valid and non‑suspended or inactive Texas Drivers License.
Because of ACU’s affiliation with the churches of Christ, this employee must be a professing Christian willing to support the Christian mission and purpose of the university while employed by ACU. Have no felony convictions of any kind, or any misdemeanor convictions of crimes involving moral turpitude. Have no convictions for DUI/DWI. Have the ability to work well without direct supervision.
Have the ability to interact well with all students, faculty, staff and visitors of ACU, maintaining a positive, service oriented attitude in all types of circumstances and contacts. High level of personal integrity and confidentiality due to working with and access to sensitive information pertaining to criminal and university investigations. Adaptability and resourcefulness in handling unanticipated scheduling changes and other unusual circumstances typical of law enforcement duties.
