Fiber Splicing Manager
Reports To:
Project Manager or Director

Hourly Rate: $40-50/hr (firm, dependent on experience)
Location:
Abilene, TX (must be local or willing to travel to Abilene for 2 weeks at a time)
Manage the fiber splicing teams responsible for Smartlink’s Data Center work, including fiber testing and fiber prep teams. Collaborate with leadership to shape the workflow strategies, providing hands‑on support and technical guidance to ensure optimal performance and scalability.
Responsibilities- Oversee all fiber optic splicing and testing operations for large-scale data center projects.
- Manage team of 8-10 technicians across multiple shifts and work sites.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and quality standards.
- Coordinate with general contractors and project stakeholders.
- Manage equipment maintenance, calibration, and inventory.
- Develop and implement workflow optimization strategies.
- Provide technical expertise for complex splicing challenges.
- Prepare project documentation and progress reports.
- Continuously evaluate and improve internal processes to increase efficiency, consistency, and scalability within the infrastructure function.
- Maintain professional, ethical, and company standards at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years’ experience in fiber optic installation and splicing.
- 3+ years management experience in telecommunications projects.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot complex fiber and splicing related issues.
- Advanced certifications: FOA CFOS/S, ETA Fiber Optics Technician Level 3.
- Experience with ribbon fiber splicing and high-count cables (1000+ fibers).
- Proficiency with Fujikura, Sumitomo, and EXFO test equipment.
- Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure requirements.
- Project management certification (PMP) preferred.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel.
- Sedentary work (i.e., sitting for long periods of time).
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force.
- Ability to stand, walk, or walk for extended periods of time and long distances, bend, reach, and carry items weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Subject to indoor environmental conditions.
