Data Center Chief Engineer
Responsible for operating, inspecting, and maintaining various systems and equipment in a data center critical environment. Focuses on ensuring efficient operations, minimizing downtime, and maintaining energy‑efficient and safe conditions. The engineer demonstrates expertise in a specific craft area while being multi‑skilled in other areas to complete daily work assignments.
Day‑to‑Day Tasks- Maintenance
- Follow critical environment protocols and MOP processes.
- Perform preventive and repair work orders on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other installed systems.
- Maintain, operate, and repair HVAC systems, CRAC units, electrical distribution, plumbing, building interior/exterior repair, and production equipment.
- Familiarize with building automation, fire/life safety, and related equipment.
- Conduct facility inspections and due‑diligence reporting.
- Safety
- Complete hazard assessments.
- Comply with safety procedures and maintain housekeeping.
- Maintain compliance with local ordinances, codes, or laws.
- Complete required safety training.
- Administrative
- Submit P‑card receipts daily.
- Update work order status in real time.
- Utilize CMMS systems such as Corrigo.
- Perform vehicle safety inspections.
- Escalate issues to customer and manager promptly.
- Attend work and safety meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Lifting up to 80 lbs.
- Working from heights; climbing ladders up to 30 ft with limited weight.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and overhead work.
- Operating in extreme cold or hot conditions.
- Driving for extended periods.
- Must be available for call‑in work.
- 4+ years of building engineering experience with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and production equipment maintenance.
- Experience in data center or raised‑floor environments.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Universal EPA 608 Certification.
- CRAC (Liebert) maintenance and repair experience.
- Required licenses per jurisdiction.
- Computer skills:
Word, Excel. - 2 years of trade school or documented apprenticeship.
Preferred:
Expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations, Material Handling Equipment) and familiarity with building automation and fire/life safety systems.
Estimated total compensation: $98,000 – $103,000 USD per year. Compensation is an estimate and is not guaranteed.
LocationOn‑site in Abilene, TX (relocation to Abilene, TX required).
