Diesel Technician

Overview

Position Mid-Level Diesel Technician – Abilene, Texas. Ryder is hiring an experienced technician with the goal of maintaining and repairing heavy-duty vehicles. This role offers weekly pay, comprehensive benefits, and a technician career path.

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance and component inspections and repairs
• Performs preventive maintenance
• Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic equipment when applicable
• Identifies root causes of basic failures and performs repairs as required
• Replaces defective components as instructed
• Performs facility maintenance duties
• Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine the nature of the complaint once assigned a task
• Utilizes Shop Management System and electronic documentation
• Adheres to all applicable safety, DOT, MOT, and corporate compliance guidelines
• Performs other support duties as required to support operations

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational/technical certification or post-secondary degree preferred
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
• Two or more years of combined classroom training and work experience (preferred)
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred
• Must be able to drive Ryder vehicles; ability to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire; pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background checks
