Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Experienced Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Abilene, Texas. The role involves maintenance and repair duties for heavy duty vehicles, ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and corporate safety standards.

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard and preventive maintenance
• Diagnoses complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers when applicable
• Completes complex and detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision
• Replaces defective components as instructed
• Works unsupervised on most tasks
• Performs facility maintenance duties
• Interacts with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints once assigned a task
• Utilizes key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Works in accordance with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Acts as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
• Demonstrates the ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents
• Other support duties as required to support operations (e.g., Service Island support)
• Completes SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT
  220)
• Completes two of the OEM online diagnostic scan tool software courses required by location fleet mix (predominant OEM) within 365 days

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or technical certification or post‑secondary degree preferred
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
• Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems required
• Three (3) years or more relevant work experience preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred
• All other certifications required by location required
• Must have a minimum of two years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment
• Knowledge of and ability to apply computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
• Must be able to drive Ryder vehicles; must obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
• Must pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder background and motor vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years)
