Position Description
Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Experienced Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Abilene, Texas.
Pay & Benefits- Hourly Pay: $28.23 per hour
- Certification Bonus: up to $700 for new ASE certifications
- Schedule:
Tuesday – Saturday (First Shift 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Saturday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm) - Annual Merit Pay increases each year

- Vocational or Technical Certification, Post‑secondary degree or Technical Certifications (preferred)
- Basic tools required
- Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:
- Routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
- Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems
- Three (3) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
- All other certifications required by location (required)
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment
- Computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc. (knowledge required)
- Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass a Ryder Drug Test
- Pass a DOT physical
- Pass a Ryder road test
- Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
- Additional location‑specific requirements may apply
- Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including:
- Standard and preventive maintenance
- Diagnoses complex mechanical and electronic problems utilizing diagnostic computers when applicable
- Completes complex and detailed mechanical inspections & repairs with minimal supervision
- Replaces defective components as instructed
- Works unsupervised on most tasks
- Performs facility maintenance duties
- Interacts with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints once a task is assigned
- Utilizes key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
- Works in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
- Acts as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
- Demonstrates ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents
- Other support duties as required to support operations (e.g., Service Island support)
- Obtains SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT
220) - Completes 2 of the OEM On‑Line diagnostic scan tool software courses as required (completed within 365 days)
