Job Summary

Under general supervision, perform technical work supporting the planning, testing, and maintenance of AEP metering facilities. Recognized as an EPS Meter Inspector and Commissioning Agent at the Technician Specialist level for specified installations, assisting with EPS inspections, meter programming, and test documentation in accordance with ERCOT Protocol and EPS requirements.

EPS Inspection & Commissioning Support:
Assist with EPS commissioning by verifying basic meter form and wiring, confirming CT/PT ratios and nameplate data, performing and documenting instructed tests.

Collect and organize test records, configuration files, and one‑line updates for EPS packages under supervision.

Job Description
  • Functions as a team leader to resolve conflict, build consensus; develops and presents technical reports clearly and effectively.
  • Makes decisions that affect the work of the team, maintains risk awareness, understands organizational goals, and offers suggestions to achieve them.
  • Understands and performs technical functions required in the relevant area; uses technical and computer tools cost‑effectively; ensures compliance with standards, codes, regulations, and procedures.
  • Prepares cost estimates for non‑routine work and special projects; uses records to plan future work; plans, organizes, and conducts meetings.
  • Works routine assignments by problem‑solving; seeks new opportunities that add value.
  • Repairs moderately complex electronic instruments, controls, and equipment efficiently; supports the repair shop operation with data analysis, report preparation, and record maintenance.
  • Develops software programs related to meter services activities that are cost‑effective and improve productivity.
  • Tests, maintains, and operates all types of metering equipment and related test equipment, including single‑phase, polyphase, electromechanical, electronic, multifunctional meters, data recorders, transducers, handheld PCs, power‑quality equipment, standards, and controls.
  • Supports transmission and generation‑level metering, including programming, installation, and testing as required.
  • Participates in developing training material and provides training support for internal and external audiences related to meter services.
  • Performs acceptance evaluations on new equipment; evaluates failures; documents results, compiles reports, and makes equipment recommendations.
  • Provides assistance to others in technical work: sketches, drawings, material lists, cost estimates, reports, etc.
  • Performs duties in accordance with company safety rules and regulations and reports unsafe conditions.
  • Complies with and supports ethically sound behavior, fostering shared accountability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need

Education: Two‑year associate degree in electrical/electronic technology.

Experience: Two years as a Meter Technician, Meter Electrician A, P&C Technician, or equivalent.

License/Certification: Valid state driver’s license. Obtain any required licenses, certifications, permits, notaries, etc.

Other Requirements: Medium physical demand level; safe work habits; acceptable written and verbal communication; productive teamwork; willingness to work overtime as required; ability to obtain qualifications for next‑higher classification within a specified time frame.

Physical Demands
  • Must hear spoken words via telephone, cell phone, or meetings.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all essential physical functions.
  • May be required to work on customer facilities in remote or rough terrain.
