The Heavy Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment and vehicles. This includes trucks, trailers, construction equipment, agricultural machinery, and other diesel-operated equipment. The mechanic ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance on diesel engines and heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues.
  • Repair and replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and suspensions.
  • Conduct inspections and identify potential equipment failures.
  • Use diagnostic software, computerized equipment, and hand tools to troubleshoot problems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
  • Perform DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Test equipment following repairs to verify proper operation.
  • Respond to field service calls and emergency breakdowns as required.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Order and manage parts and shop supplies as needed.
  • Collaborate with operations and management teams to minimize equipment downtime.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Technical training in diesel technology or related field preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience repairing heavy diesel equipment, trucks, or construction machinery.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and air brake systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL preferred.
  • Ability to operate diagnostic tools and computerized repair equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate shop equipment and heavy machinery.
Preferred Certifications
  • CDL Class A or

    B.
  • OSHA Safety Training.
