Abilene, TX (must be local or willing to travel to Abilene for 2 weeks at a time)

Job Summary:

Fiber Technician II is responsible for applying advanced technical skills to install, splice, test, and repair fiber optic networks, including high-density ribbon fiber within data center environments. This role performs mid- to high-level splicing and testing activities using industry-standard equipment and procedures. The Technician ensures all work is completed safely, accurately, and in full compliance with quality and industry standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Perform advanced fiber optic splicing using ribbon and mass fusion techniques.
  • Conduct comprehensive fiber testing utilizing OTDR, power meters, and related test equipment.
  • Train and coach junior technicians to ensure consistent skill advancement and adherence to standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve splice, continuity, and test-related issues.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of splice activities, test results, and project documentation.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to junior technicians.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable industry standards (TIA-568, IEC, Telcordia).
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Fujikura 90R and other specialized splicing equipment.
  • Perform quality control inspections to verify all completed work meets performance and safety requirements.
  • Uphold professional conduct and adhere to company policies, safety procedures, and ethical standards at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or industry certifications strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in fiber optic splicing and testing.
  • Proven experience working with 200-micron ribbon fiber and Base-16 data center architectures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with mass-fusion splicing equipment, including Fujikura and Sumitomo platforms.
  • OTDR testing certification and practical experience using EXFO test equipment.
  • FOA CFOT certification required; CFOS/S or equivalent advanced certifications preferred.
  • Ability to safely work in confined spaces, elevated environments, and other non-standard conditions.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to producing high‑quality, precise workmanship.
  • Valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record and willingness to travel as needed.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and long distances, bend, reach, and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Subject to indoor environmental conditions.
  • Regular and extended travel.
