Provides transitioning service members with supervised, hands-on training in the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of heavy construction and industrial equipment. The intern develops civilian- recognized technical skills while learning Kirby-Smith shop operations, safety standards, and customer service practices.
DoD Skill Bridge Heavy Equipment Service Technician/Mechanic Essential Function- Communicates and supports the Kirby Smith vision and core values of One Mission, One Team, One Plan, One Goal
- Performs diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and repair on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and powertrains under technician supervision
- Completes preventive maintenance inspections and scheduled service work on heavy equipment
- Reads and interprets technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer service bulletins
- Uses diagnostic software and specialized tools to identify equipment issues
- Documents work performed, parts used, and labor hours in the shop management system
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company and applicable safety standards
- Communicates professionally with technicians, service managers, and customers regarding equipment status and repairs
- Participates in on-the-job training and shadows experienced technicians across equipment specialties
- Consistent and reliable on-site attendance
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Active-duty service member approved for participation in the DoD Skill Bridge Program with 180 days or fewer remaining before separation
- Military experience in a mechanical, technical, or maintenance-related field preferred, such as wheeled or tracked vehicle maintenance, power generation equipment repair, or a similar military occupational specialty or rating
- Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Ability to read technical manuals and follow detailed repair procedures
- Willingness and ability to learn manufacturer-specific diagnostic tools and software
- Valid driver's license required; commercial driver's license preferred but not required
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks in a shop environment, including bending, kneeling, and working in confined…
