FAYS Program Counselor
The FAYS program addresses family conflict and everyday struggles while promoting strong families and youth resilience. New Horizons' FAYS program offers one-on-one coaching or counseling with trained professionals and group-based learning for youth and parents. We also operate a 24/7 hotline for families with urgent needs. Applicants should have a strong work ethic, the ability to work independently and as part of a team and a passion for working with kids and families.
All New Horizons' Staff are expected to study, practice and operate within the New Horizons' Philosophy of Keeping Kids First. Keeping Kids First requires that every decision and action be motivated by and geared toward meeting the highest need of the individual kid. New Horizons will not tolerate anyone who is not committed to keeping kids safe from abuse, neglect and exploitation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure that delivery of services for kids is consistent with New Horizons' philosophy, policy and procedures.
- Provide crisis intervention, curriculum-based youth and parent skills training and counseling to children and families.
- Ensures contractual requirements, maintain a minimum number caseload, and complete paperwork in a timely manner.
- Answer phone calls during shifts of a 24/7 on-call rotation.
- Participate in advocacy outreach and program promotion.
- Work cooperatively using a team approach with youth, families, other agencies, community professionals and New Horizons' staff.
- Adhere to HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Maintain written chronological records of family progress.
- Respect and acknowledge the inherent worth and dignity of each client and adhere to the philosophy and guidelines of New Horizons.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in social work, psychology, or a human service–related field, with one year of direct experience working with at-risk youth and/or families.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
- Must possess reliable transportation and appropriate vehicle insurance.
- Preferred:
- A master's degree from an accredited University in social work, psychology, or human services related field is preferred.
- If education requirement may be substituted for at least eight years' experience working with at-risk youth and families.
Working Conditions
Mixed indoor and outdoor environment, involving continuous interaction with children, requiring flexible hours.
Physical Requirements
Mixed standing, walking, hearing, lifting, or crisis response.
