The Rehabilitation Teacher II works within a State Supported Living Center (SSLC) to provide highly complex planning, instruction, and support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The role focuses on teaching daily living skills, promoting independence, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team (IDT) to meet each resident’s habilitation or rehabilitation needs.
Essential Job Functions- Plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate individualized instruction programs for residents.
- Conduct classroom and activity‐based training in daily living, vocational, socialization, and recreation skills.
- Verify daily sheets in AT3 and submit attendance summaries to the Case Manager Supervisor.
- Complete bi‑weekly pay cycle and redeposit packets on schedule.
- File billing vouchers at the start of each month and ensure submission by the due date.
- Back up the Activity Tracker and update the Payroll Restriction document as required.
- Serve as backup for HRC and support the Assistant Director with Time Studies, Prevailing Wages, and contact records.
- Manage contracts from initiation to completion, maintain the 14C certificate, and coordinate WIOA counseling sessions and related paperwork.
- Respond to crisis situations using verbal de‑escalation and Safe Use of Restraints (SUR) protocols.
- Attend ISPs/ISP‑A meetings and provide reports on program status and resident progress.
- Maintain a safe, clean work environment and monitor for safety and cleanliness.
- Participate in agency disaster response and continuity of operations activities when called upon.
- Knowledge of IDD and ICF/IID standards.
- Knowledge of cultural preferences and age‑specific interests.
- Knowledge of electronic medical record documentation.
- Skill in education, training, and active treatment methods.
- Problem‑solving, decision‑making, and good judgment in critical incidents.
- Assessment of clients’ functional levels.
- Planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating individualized programs.
- Effective communication with staff and residents.
- Independent and collaborative teamwork skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to assume additional responsibilities.
- Physical ability to monitor training programs and inspect training areas for safety.
- Capability to perform CPR and restraint techniques, if trained.
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Two (2) years of experience in rehabilitation services; or
- High school diploma and four (4) years of experience in rehabilitation services.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, and LEIE. Males 18–25 must be registered with the Selective Service. All employees are subject to random drug testing. Work hours may require overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexibility.
