ABINGDON, VIRGINIA
The Warehouse Associate will support the mission of Feeding Southwest Virginia by providing direct support in the daily operation of the warehouse including all duties related to shipping, receiving of food, warehouse maintenance, inventory control, food storage safety and distribution of products to agencies. Operate and maintain MHE and company vehicles according to procedure. Work and support the Operations Team to ensure a good team dynamic and warehouse operations.
POSITIONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- As a Warehouse Associate, demonstrate a professional demeanor in interactions with all Feeding Southwest Virginia staff, agencies, program representatives and government officials.
- Keep informed of and consistently practice the policies and procedures of Feeding Southwest Virginia, Feeding America national office, USDA, FDA and government regulations pertaining to food handling, storage, sanitation and disposal.
- Ensure that maintenance of the warehouse, equipment, grounds, vehicles, sanitation, pest control, fire prevention and safety procedures are followed.
- Possess knowledge of Feeding Southwest Virginia and all programs.
- Complete Serv Safe training within the first six months of employment and keep current.
- Complete forklift certification per Federal and State Regulations.
- Report variances in product labeling, temperature, ice buildup, cleanliness, fire exit access and safety hazards.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, damage logs, and reconcile daily variances.
- Support the freez/ cooler operation: label pallets with receipt date, item number, weight and expiration date; monitor temperatures at 39°F and –8°F; ensure zero/minimal ice buildup; maintain fire exit passage; enforce safe product storage.
- Support Kids Café Area operations: put away, store and pick kids program product; monitor expiration dates; maintain aisle cleanliness; report variances and ensure fire exit passage.
- Maintain Selection Floor safety and product handling rules; restock daily; conduct random inspections of storage boxes; maintain weekly product damage/loss log; uphold AIB Audit best practices for cleanliness.
- Handle Shipping and Receiving: accurately complete receipt and log data; validate inbound and outbound quantities; verify load characteristics; report safety or equipment damage; document photo evidence; maintain shipping/receiving area cleanliness.
- Manage USDA Area: put away, store and pickup USDA product per USDA guidelines; conduct weekly, monthly and annual USDA product inventory; capture product damage and variances; maintain appropriate pallet tags and labeling; keep aisle cleanliness.
- Perform Facility Operations: follow receiving and shipping procedures; process agency orders; accurately tag pallets; assist in directing product flow; oversee community service workers; monitor first-in/first-out system; assist with restocking the pull-floor; help Quality Assurance Department; support local Food Drives and special events; handle pickup and delivery using Food Bank vehicles.
- Administer office communications and administrative procedures; document product movement; update departmental SOPs; serve as contact for the organization, demonstrating professionalism with partners, visitors, volunteers, donors and the general public; handle competent customer service situations; develop strong communication and customer service skills; promote a cooperative spirit within the organization.
- Assume additional duties as assigned by the Operations Director, Chief Operating Officer and the President and CEO.
- Maintain positive relationships with Food Bank employees, Feeding America, VA Department of Agriculture, OSHA, regulatory agencies, donors, tenants and vendors; ensure a positive volunteer experience.
