William King Museum of Art seeks a Studio Art & Education Assistant for Art Lab, its educational facility on the WKMA campus in Abingdon, VA. This position is unique and combines administrative office support (scheduling appointments, making calls, updating spreadsheets) with hands‑on assistance in art studios (supply preparation, tour and classroom assistance, art tool and equipment care) all while in an art‑ and education‑focused setting.
This position reports to the Director of Higher Education.
We recognize the possibility that an applicant may not yet possess all specialized skills required for the studio art assistant portion of this position. Otherwise‑qualified applicants with the ability and desire to learn art studio upkeep are encouraged to apply, as studio‑specific training may be included in the onboarding process.
Day’s workflow - possible example:- Morning:
Follow up on emails, and return calls to confirm or update the programs schedule in the department calendar. - Mid morning: assist with an educational museum tour for a visiting school group.
- Early afternoon: prepare bulk supplies for an art class occurring later in the week.
- Mid afternoon: filing, making copies, loading the ceramics kiln.
Part‑time 20‑25 hours per week / approx. 3 days/week
Pay:$15‑18/hour
Physical Demands include:- Ability to work and focus in a communal office environment (mild to moderate noise or interruption)
- Ability to climb stairs, bend, kneel, squat, reach, lift (up to 50lb - occasional and for short distances), engage in repetitive motions, and sit or stand for long periods of time.

- Measuring and math skills - decimals, fractions, percentages, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, conversions.

- Passion for art and education
- Teaching experience or experience working in an educational setting.
- Studio art experience with understanding of how to use and care for various art tools.
