The Development and Volunteer Manager supports the mission of Feeding Southwest Virginia by leading strategic fundraising initiatives and developing a strong volunteer engagement program that expands the organization’s impact throughout the region.
This position cultivates and manages relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, community organizations, and volunteers to increase philanthropic support and strengthen community involvement. Serving as an ambassador for Feeding Southwest Virginia, the Development and Volunteer Manager communicates the importance of philanthropy and volunteerism in addressing food insecurity and advancing the Food Bank's mission.
In addition, this position is responsible for recruiting, training, coordinating, and retaining volunteers who support the daily operations of the Abingdon facility. Working collaboratively with site leadership and program staff, the Development and Volunteer Manager develops and implements volunteer engagement strategies that ensure operational needs are met while creating meaningful and rewarding volunteer experiences.
POSITION SUMMARY Development and Volunteer Manager Position SummaryThe Development and Volunteer Manager is responsible for advancing the mission of Feeding Southwest Virginia by leading corporate and individual fundraising efforts while developing and managing a comprehensive volunteer program. This position serves as a key member of the Development Team, fostering meaningful relationships with donors, volunteers, community partners, and corporate sponsors to support the organization’s strategic goals.
The Development and Volunteer Manager reports directly to the Chief Development Officer and works collaboratively with the Abingdon Operations Director to ensure the successful execution of development initiatives and volunteer engagement programs.

Organizational Leadership and Compliance- Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with Feeding Southwest Virginia staff, volunteers, partner agencies, program representatives, donors, corporate partners, and government officials.
- Maintain a safe, productive, and regulatory-compliant work environment.
- Remain knowledgeable of and consistently adhere to Feeding Southwest Virginia policies and procedures, as well as Feeding America, USDA, FDA, Virginia Department of Agriculture, and other applicable food safety and regulatory standards.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, food handling, storage, sanitation, and disposal regulations.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Feeding Southwest Virginia’s mission, programs, and services to effectively represent the organization.
As a member of the Development Team, the Development and Volunteer Manager will:
- Lead the organization's Funds, Fun & Food corporate engagement program by recruiting, cultivating, and recognizing corporate partners to increase annual philanthropic support.
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 50-75 individual and corporate donors and prospects
, utilizing best practices in donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and retention. - Conduct face-to-face donor meetings, presentations, facility tours, proposal development, and ongoing communications to achieve established fundraising and relationship-building goals.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase corporate engagement through sponsorship opportunities, food and fund drives, cause-related marketing campaigns, advertising, public relations, and co-branding initiatives.
- Build long-term donor relationships by implementing effective Moves Management strategies, including regular personal contact through meetings, phone calls, emails, and written correspondence.
- Collaborate with the Development Team to plan, coordinate, and execute successful fundraising events, community engagement activities, and donor recognition events.
