Responsible for all types of construction, maintenance, removal, operation, testing, and inspection of energized or de-energized generation, transmission, and distribution facilities. Responds to emergency call-outs and coordinates restoration of service to customers.
Station Electrician CWhat You’ll Do:
- Work on energized equipment up to 260 volts; after six months, assist with work on conductors and equipment energized above 750 volts under supervision.
- Select proper prints and drawings, and use voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, and insulation meggers.
- Assist in disassembling, reassembling, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing station transformers, circuit breakers, portable substations, rotating machinery, network protectors, air ducts, heat exchangers, batteries, nitrogen bottles, and air filters.
- Assist with installation of conduit, pipe, cable, and wire; dig, backfill trenches; install fences, barriers, safety signs; paint structures; climb station structures.
- Use tapes, insulating materials, protective paints, and varnishes; perform visual inspections and apply start-run-stop tests on emergency generators and fire engines; report abnormal conditions.
- Replace lamps, switches, outlets, dry cells; install and maintain signal and communication systems; assist with oil sample tests and electrical testing (TTR, Doble, core megger).
- Assist in station switching, convey through radio or direct instruction, check clearances, perform de-energized tests, and place grounds.
- Maintain records and reports; attend and assist in training others; operate company vehicles, cranes, aerial lifts, and specialized equipment; use hand and power tools.
What You’ll Need:
- Associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance technology or equivalent education/experience.
- No previous work experience required.
- Must be available for overtime, call‑out overtime, and shift work; travel expected >50% of the time.
- Must satisfy required training to advance to the next classification.
- Must possess a valid commercial driver’s license and comply with vehicle operation requirements.
- Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
Physical Demands: Lift 75 lbs to waist level; carry 60 lbs for 20 ft; lift 50 lbs to chest level; lift 30 lbs to eye level; walk ½ mile per shift; climb 50‑ft ladder; ascend 100‑ft bucket/lift.
Station Electrician BWhat You’ll Do:
- Work on conductors and equipment energized above 750 volts with supervision.
- Use live line tools, operate cranes and aerial lifts, and operate company vehicles.
- Assemble, repair, and maintain circuit breakers, transformers, reactive devices, network protectors, lightning arresters, and capacitor banks; replace bushings; perform cable terminations; install ground wires.
- Erect and drill switchboard panels; wire de‑energized and energized panels and controls; install conduit, pipe, and tubing.
- Assemble station steel structural members and perform minor carpentry work.
- Perform switching operations, de‑energized tests, and install protective grounds.
- Make inspections and report irregularities; maintain safety equipment and tools.
- Set up and operate testing equipment (stroke analyzer, oil handling, SF6 gas equipment, TTR, Doble, core megger).
- Maintain records and reports; assist in safety training; direct work of employees assigned to assist.
What You’ll Need:
- Two‑year associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance technology or equivalent education/experience.
- Minimum of 24 months satisfactory experience as a Station Electrician C or equivalent.
- Valid Class A CDL required.
- Must be available for overtime, call‑out overtime, and shift work; travel expected >50% of the time.
- Must qualify through demonstration, examination, and performance appraisal; maintain knowledge of assigned stations.
