Deputy Sheriff – Crisis Intervention Team Assessment Center Washington County Sheriff's Office

CITAC Sergeant

Serves as sworn law enforcement deputy of the Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Crisis Intervention Team Assessment Center (CITAC).

As a deputy sheriff assigned to the CITAC, deputy will accept transfers of custody from local law enforcement agencies as guided by the involuntary civil commitment process to ensure those experiencing a behavioral health crisis will be assessed in a timely manner by a mental health professional in a therapeutic location.

Successfully complete a Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) approved 40 hour CIT Core Training Program.

Ability to work collaboratively with local mental health and medical professionals in the community to ensure safe and therapeutic outcomes for those experiencing behavioral health crises.

Extensive working knowledge of federal, state and local laws that may pertain to the given assignment.

Extensive working knowledge of state laws that pertain to the involuntary civil commitment process.

Extensive working knowledge of Sheriff’s Office policy, procedures, and methods.

Ability to complete required reports in a timely and accurate manner.

Ability to endure verbal and mental abuse when confronted by hostile individuals, without responding inappropriately.

Ability to safely transfer and transport arrestees in custody.

Ability to communicate with persons who may be in mental crisis.

Ability to communicate effectively using clear, proper spoken and written English with staff, the public, and members of other agencies in the performance of duties.

Ability to observe and mentally record events, impressions, identities, and other observations.

Ability to impartially exercise independent judgement in the performance of duties.

Ability to distinguish hazards and/or criminal activity by sight and sound.

Ability to take notes and to completely and accurately describe factual information regarding an incident.

Ability to compose routine correspondence.

Ability to manage time and schedules.

Ability to successfully complete all required training.

Ability to successfully maintain all required training certifications.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of county, state, and federal government agencies as well as partner agencies to the assigned position.

Ability to safely operate motor vehicle during clear and in climate weather conditions.

Ability to make personal contact with the possibility of exposure to body fluid and or waste.

Ability to make personal contact and deal with persons experiencing behavioral health crisis.

Ability to perform searches of persons and areas by feeling, observing, hearing and smelling.

Ability to research information, law court decisions, methods, and techniques relevant to the Sheriff’s Office and the assigned position.

Ability to lift, carry, and/or drag heavy objects, with a minimum weight of 120lbs, such as victims or restraint subjects.

Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Sheriff.

Extensive knowledge of state and county laws and ordinances relating to the criminal code, especially the involuntary civil commitment process;
