Special Education teachers in the Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) program at Woodsdale Elementary School provide highly structured, therapeutic, and individualized services to students with IEPs who have significant social-emotional, behavioral, and learning needs. In this substantially separate setting, the teacher serves as case manager and instructional leader, facilitating the IEP process and developing data-driven academic and behavioral goals while designing and implementing individualized curriculum and supports aligned to each student’s profile.
The role includes continuous progress monitoring, collaboration with paraprofessionals, related service providers, behavior specialists, and families, and delivering instruction within the TLC classroom with opportunities for supported inclusion, using evidence-based behavioral and social-emotional interventions.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to educational equity, inclusion, and student-centered therapeutic practices
- Provide a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment for students with intensive social-emotional and behavioral needs
- Design and implement individualized, standards-aligned instruction using differentiation, scaffolding, and trauma-informed practices
- Use data to monitor academic and behavioral progress and adjust instruction and interventions accordingly
- Implement PBIS, de-escalation strategies, and social-emotional learning supports
- Develop and manage compliant, data-driven IEPs, including assessment and progress monitoring
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with staff, families, and stakeholders to support student growth and inclusion opportunities
