Responsibilities

  • Manage, plan, coordinate, and support the operation and maintenance of uninterrupted light, heat, power, water, and monitoring systems for all hospital buildings and services.
  • Assume direct responsibility for peripheral facilities operations of satellite or affiliated facilities that are not staffed by TJU Facilities personnel.
  • Ensure the overall condition and appearance of hospital and university facilities is maintained professionally.
  • Support development and management of operating budgets for all departments and related costs.
  • Manage staffing schedules, ensuring coverage of critical events and daily operational needs.
  • Identify and manage operating and capital budgets, maintaining quality control.
  • Provide administrative and professional support for the safe and efficient operation of all buildings, equipment, systems and grounds.
  • Maintain relationships and routine interactions with regulatory agencies (TJC, PA Dept. of Health, City L&I).
  • Develop and demonstrate a working understanding of client needs; minimize organizational risk.
  • Provide knowledge‑based support to drive compliance, service‑level improvement, patient‑care satisfaction, and minimize business impact of operational interruptions.
  • Establish direct relationships with key departmental representatives, area managers, and staff as the leader responsible for Facilities Performance and Customer Service.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of clinical areas, research labs, and support departments to ensure client needs are met.
  • Monitor the condition of all buildings, systems, equipment and grounds for safety and efficiency.
  • Maintain compliance with state and local codes, TJC, insurance compliance, and conduct periodic inspections.
  • Work in support of the Managing Director and Directors of Operations to ensure continuous readiness for TJC, PADOH, and other regulatory site visits.
  • Meet with survey and inspection personnel to review surveys and corrective actions.
  • Report to Directors of Operations and Compliance on inspection results and recommend corrective action.
  • Participate in planning future development of physical facilities and systems.
  • Develop, review, and recommend approval of plans for equipment and systems retrofit, repair, replacement, or additions.
  • Ensure readiness, functioning, and maintenance of life‑safety systems (fire alarms, sprinkler systems, emergency generators).
  • Delegate routine repair and maintenance to Managers/Supervisors and contract for periodic inspections and special maintenance of detection and control systems.
  • Support and optimize use of the Work Order / Preventive Maintenance system.
  • Handle HR‑related issues for direct and indirect staff, including employment, termination, suspension, training, grievances, and promotions.
  • Support negotiation, application, and management of the collective bargaining agreement between Jefferson and the Teamsters Union.
Qualifications and Education
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field (Required).
  • Experience: 4 years of Maintenance Supervision in a medium to highly regulated or technical field; 1 year of Healthcare Facilities Management or equivalent (Required).

    • Motivate others and drive performance with or without direct authority.
    • Manage multi‑million dollar operational and capital budgets to targets.
    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (speaking, written, electronic).
    • Proficient in MS Office, MS PowerPoint and budgeting systems.
