Position: RN- Part Time Weekend Plan OR

Registered Nurse – Operating Room

Job Details:
Registered Nurse in the Operating Room at the Abington Hospital. Prior operating room experience preferred. Weekend Program: scheduled Friday/Saturday/Sunday 7a‑7p. Required to work 3 out of 4 weekends. Peri‑op 101 course preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Interacts with co‑workers, patients, their family or designated care partner(s), and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Integrates evidence‑based practice, clinical expertise, and patients’ preferences and cultural beliefs to deliver optimal health care.
  • Partners with patients and their care partner(s) to identify learning needs and priorities and provides education that is useful, understandable, and affirming.
  • Minimizes risk of harm by following established nursing practices, protocols and individual performance standards.
  • Uses information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error and support ethical decision making.
  • Uses data to monitor outcomes of care processes and applies improvement methods to design and test changes that continually enhance quality and safety of patient care.
  • Functions effectively within nursing and inter‑professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision‑making to achieve quality patient care.
  • Recognizes patients and their care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on respect for personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs.
  • Creates an environment of belonging and inclusion, demonstrating problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Specialized diploma and graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Patient‑ and family‑centered practice knowledge: ability to convey respect and collaborate with patients, families, and care partner(s) in care planning.
  • Cultural awareness: knowledge of diverse backgrounds and ability to convey respect and connect effectively.
  • Effective communication: understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques, and ability to transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs.
  • Engages patients and families using the language of partnership, involving them in health and health care decisions.
  • Appropriately and respectfully delegates to other team members.
  • Patient assessment and care: knowledge and ability to assess ailments and injuries, and implement a treatment plan.
  • Patient and designated care partner education: knowledge of child and adult education techniques, ability to elicit learning priorities, and educate on condition, treatment, medications, and recovery steps.
  • Medication administration and prescription: knowledge of various medications, ability to administer and prescribe for continuing treatment outside the hospital.
  • Discharge planning: knowledge of post‑discharge needs and ability to partner with patient/family to develop a discharge plan and arrange follow‑up care.
  • Assessment and diagnosis: knowledge of tools and techniques for patient assessment and nursing diagnosis or clinical judgment, ability to explore and analyze reasons behind symptoms and generate resolutions.
  • Health information documentation: knowledge of relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods; ability to record medical histories, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and results electronically or in written form.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support – American Heart Association and RN – Licensed Registered Nurse (PA – State of Pennsylvania or RN – Licensed Registered Nurse (NJ).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (BSN) or completion of BSN or appropriate advanced degree within 3 years of hire.
  • 1year prior experience as an RN in an acute care setting.
