Position: Registered Nurse - Operating Room (Part Time - Day) - Abington

Job Summary

With a commitment to patient‑ and family‑centered care, the professional nurse uses the nursing process to address the physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs of the diversity of patients served by Jefferson Health. The nurse develops nursing plans of care with the patient and their designated care partner(s) to effectively address individualized needs and priorities consistent with cultural beliefs and values.

Schedule

Friday/Saturday/Sunday 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

Articulates the job's main responsibilities. Interacts with co‑workers, patients, their family/designated care partners, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Integrates Evidence‑Based Practice, clinical expertise, patient/family preferences and cultural beliefs and values for delivery of optimal healthcare. Partners with patients and designated care partners in identifying learning needs and priorities and provides education in ways that are useful, understandable, and affirming. Minimizes risk of harm to patients and others by following established nursing practices and protocols and individual performance.

Uses information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support ethical decision making. Uses data to monitor outcomes of care processes and uses improvement methods to design and test changes to continuously improve quality and safety of patient care. Functions effectively within nursing and inter‑professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision‑making to achieve quality patient care.

Recognizes patients and their family/designated care partners in providing safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on respect for personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values. Creates an environment of belonging and inclusion, demonstrating problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrates a commitment to learning and pursues opportunities for continued professional growth and development, acting in a primary preceptor role to appropriate staff members.

Actively participates in hospital‑ and practice setting‑based committees, including safety and quality improvement. Demonstrates willingness to give and receive feedback and integrates appropriate changes into practice.

Qualifications
  • Education –

    Required:

    Specialized Diploma Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Education – Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or completion of BSN or appropriate advanced degree within 3 years of hire.
  • Experience – Preferred: 1 year previous experience as an RN in an acute care setting.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities –

    Required:

    • Patient‑and Family‑Centered Practice: convey respect and collaborate with patients, families, and designated care partners in care and care planning.
    • Cultural Awareness: knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and ability to convey respect and connect effectively.
    • Effective Communication: understand communication concepts, tools, and techniques; transmit, receive, and interpret ideas and information accurately; use partnership language with patients and families.
    • Appropriate Delegation: respectfully delegate to other team members.
    • Patient Assessment and Care: assess ailments and injuries and implement treatment plans.
    • Patient and Designated Care Partner

      Education:

      knowledge of child and adult education techniques; elicit learning priorities and educate patients and care partners on conditions, treatment, medications, and next steps.
    • Medication Administration and Prescription: knowledge of various medications used to treat patients; apply this knowledge to administration and prescription for continuing treatment outside the hospital.
