Job Duties
- Interact with co‑workers, patients, their family/designated care partners, and other staff consistent with Jefferson values.

- Partner with patients and their family/designated care partners to identify learning needs and priorities, providing education that is useful, understandable, and affirming.
- Minimize risk of harm by following nursing practices, protocols, and individual performance standards.
- Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support ethical decision making.
- Use data to monitor outcomes of care processes and employ improvement methods to design and test changes that continuously improve quality and safety of patient care.
- Function effectively within nursing and inter‑professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision‑making.
- Recognize patients and their family/designated care partners in providing safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on respect for their personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
- Create an environment of belonging and inclusion, demonstrating problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrate commitment to learning and seek opportunities for continued professional growth and development; act in a primary preceptor role for appropriate staff members.
- Actively participate in hospital‑ and practice‑setting‑based committees, including safety and quality improvement.
- Demonstrate willingness to give and receive feedback and integrate appropriate changes into practice.
- Specialized Diploma:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. - Patient‑and‑Family‑Centered Practice Knowledge: ability to convey respect and collaborate with patients, families, and designated care partners in care and care planning.
- Cultural Awareness Knowledge: understanding and ability to convey respect to people with diverse backgrounds.
- Effective Communication Knowledge: proficiency in transmitting, receiving, and accurately interpreting ideas, information, and needs using appropriate communication behaviors.
- Patient Assessment and Care Knowledge: ability to assess ailments and injuries and implement a suitable treatment plan.
- Patient and Designated Care Partner Education Knowledge: skill in child and adult education techniques and ability to elicit learning priorities and educate patients and their partners about condition, treatment, medications, and next steps.
- Medication Administration and Prescription Knowledge: familiarity with medications and ability to administer and prescribe for continuing treatment outside the hospital.
- Discharge Planning Knowledge: ability to partner with patients and family/designated care partners in developing discharge plans and arranging follow‑up care.
- Assessment and Diagnosis Knowledge: use of tools and techniques for patient assessment and nursing diagnosis, clinical judgement, and ability to generate resolutions based on available drugs, facilities and techniques.
- Health Information Documentation Knowledge: proficiency in recording medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
- BLS – Basic Life Support certification.
- AHA – American Heart Association certification.
- RN – Licensed Registered Nurse in the PA (or state of practice).
- Bachelor’s Degree BSN or completion of BSN or appropriate advanced degree within 3 years of hire (strongly preferred).
- 1 year previous experience as an RN in an acute care setting (strongly preferred).
- Active RN license required in state of practice.
- Lift and carry 40-50 lbs; push/pull patients on bed or stretcher (requires 29 lbs push force); lateral transfers up to 50 lbs of patient weight.
- Frequent to continuous standing/walking; patient transporters may walk 8-10 miles per shift.
- May require kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR.
