Position: RN - Surgical Unit (PT - Day) - Abington

Job Duties

  • Interacts with co-workers, patients, family or designated care partners, and other staff in a manner consistent with Jefferson’s values.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Specialized Diploma graduate from an accredited school of nursing (or equivalent).
  • Patient‑and‑Family‑Centered Practice: ability to convey respect, collaborate with patients and families, and incorporate cultural beliefs.
  • Cultural Awareness: sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Effective Communication: application of communication concepts, tools, and techniques; partnership language; respectful delegation.
  • Patient Assessment and Care: ability to assess ailments, injuries, and implement treatment plans.
  • Patient and Designated Care Partner

    Education:

    proficiency in child and adult education techniques and eliciting learning priorities.
  • Medication Administration and Prescription: knowledge and safe administration of medications; prescribing for out‑of‑hospital treatment.
  • Discharge Planning: partner with patients and families to develop discharge plans and arrange follow‑up care.
  • Assessment and Diagnosis: use of tools and techniques for nursing diagnosis and clinical judgment.
  • Health Information Documentation: appropriate documentation methods and accurate record‑keeping.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • American Heart Association certification (AHA).
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in Pennsylvania or New Jersey.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) or completion of a BSN within three years of hire.
  • One year of RN experience in an acute‑care setting.
Additional Qualifications
  • Active RN license required in the state of practice.
Physical Demands
  • Lift and carry 40–50 lbs. Push/pull patients on bed or stretcher (29 lbs. push force) and perform lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of patient weight.
  • Frequent to continuous standing and walking; may walk 8–10 miles per shift.
  • Perform tasks such as kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR as required by role.
