Overview

As a professional nurse, you provide patient- and family-centered care by using the nursing process to value the uniqueness of each individual and meet physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs of diverse patients served by Jefferson Health.

Interacts with co-workers, patients, their family or designated care partner(s), and other staff; integrates evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, and cultural beliefs into care delivery; partners with patients and family to identify learning needs and priorities and provides education that is useful and affirming; minimizes risk of harm by following nursing protocols; uses information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support ethical decision making;

• Specialized Diploma Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
• Patient-and Family-Centered Practice:
  Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family and/or designated care partner in care and care planning.

  Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and ability to convey respect and connect effectively.
• Effective Communication:
  Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and interpret ideas, information, and needs.
• Patient Assessment and Care:
  Knowledge of and ability to assess ailments and injuries of patients and implement a treatment plan.

  Knowledge of child and adult education techniques; ability to elicit learning priorities and needs and educate patients and their designated care partners.
• Medication Administration and Prescription:
  Knowledge of various medications used to treat patients; ability to apply this knowledge to the administration of medications and prescription of drugs.
• Discharge Planning:
  Knowledge of the patient's post-discharge needs; ability to partner with patient and family/designated care partner(s) in developing a discharge plan and arranging for follow-up care.
• Assessment and Diagnosis:
  Knowledge of various tools and techniques for patient assessment and nursing diagnosis or clinical judgment.
• Health Information Documentation:
  Knowledge of relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods.
• BLS – Basic Life Support
• AHA – American Heart Association and RN – Licensed Registered  – State of Pennsylvania or RN – Licensed Registered  – State of New Jersey

• Bachelor’s Degree BSN or completion of BSN or appropriate advanced degree within 3 years of hire strongly preferred
• 1 year previous experience as an RN in an acute care setting strongly preferred

• Active RN license required in state of practice

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of patient weight; frequent to continuous standing/walking; patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift; may include kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
