Endodontist

An Endodontist is a dental specialist who focuses on the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases and injuries affecting the dental pulp and tissues surrounding the roots of the teeth. They specialize in performing root canal therapy and other endodontic procedures to save natural teeth and alleviate pain caused by dental infections or trauma.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnosis and Treatment Planning:
    • Conduct comprehensive examinations and diagnostic tests to identify dental pulp and periapical diseases.
    • Interpret radiographic images to assess the extent of dental pathology and plan appropriate treatment interventions.
    • Develop individualized treatment plans based on the diagnosis.
  • Root Canal Therapy:
    • Perform root canal procedures to remove infected or inflamed dental pulp.
    • Clean and shape the root canal system using specialized instruments and irrigation solutions.
    • Fill and seal the root canal space with biocompatible materials.
  • Endodontic Surgery:
    • Provide surgical endodontic treatments, including apicoectomy and root-end filling.
    • Perform surgical interventions to repair root fractures and remove foreign objects from root canals.
  • Traumatic Dental Injuries:
    • Manage traumatic dental injuries by assessing the extent of damage.
    • Perform vital pulp therapy to preserve pulp vitality and promote continued root development.
  • Pain Management and Emergency:
    • Provide prompt and effective pain relief for patients experiencing dental emergencies.
    • Administer local anesthesia and analgesics as needed.
  • Patient Education and Counseling:
    • Educate patients about maintaining optimal oral hygiene practices.
    • Discuss treatment options, risks, and benefits with patients.
  • Collaboration and Referrals:
    • Collaborate with general dentists, prosthodontists, and other dental specialists.
    • Refer patients to specialists in related fields for advanced treatments.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school.
  • Completion of an accredited endodontic residency program.
  • Board certification or eligibility for board certification in endodontics.
  • State licensure to practice endodontics.
  • Excellent clinical skills, including proficiency in performing root canal therapy and endodontic surgery.
  • Active CPR Certification is required.

  • Ability to develop and implement new approaches to improve processes, procedures or the general work environment.
